Catalog description
This course develops foundational skills for safe and effective client care, including safety regulations, vital sign measurement and interpretation, environmental hazard assessment, ethical decision-making using the AOTA Code of Ethics, and evaluation of organizational policies. Students learn functional mobility skills such as transfers, wheelchair management, and mobility device selection, applying knowledge of indications, contraindications, body mechanics, and client and environmental factors. The course also introduces assistive technology and durable medical equipment coding, electronic documentation systems, and principles of adult learning, health literacy, and client and caregiver education.
