Equal Play: Gender and Sport

Catalog description

This course will explore how sport both reinforces and perpetuates gender stereotypes and yet also challenges gender inequality. Included in the conversation will be impact of relevant policy, such as Title IX; the voices of those - especially athletes - who have included sports in battles regarding equity, opportunity, and justice; the structural constraints facing women in sport; sexuality and homophobia; and the role of media in representing ideas of gendered identities.
