Catalog description
This course provides an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of Sport Studies. Students will examine the ways that sports, across historical and contemporary contexts, shape society, and vice versa. Throughout this course, we will analyze topics such as the formation of individual and collective sporting identities, sports and their relationship to social, cultural, and political ideologies, the impact of sport media, and the role of power and inequality in sports. By the end of this course, students will have a strong foundation in scholarly approaches to the study of sports.
