Catalog description

The Twentieth Century is widely considered the most violent century in history, characterized by two world wars, countless smaller conflicts, and the rise of armed attacks targeting civilians. The international community answered this unprecedented rise in political violence through a variety of methods, including international legal responses. This course will explore legal efforts to suppress atrocity crimes through the enforcement of the core international crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the international crime of aggression.
