1st Yr Sem: Navigating College
Manhattanville University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Manhattanville's signature first-year seminar empowers students to make a successful transition into college by providing the essential tools, skills, and experiences necessary for academic achievement, personal growth, and community engagement. Rooted in the University's commitment to educating ethical and socially responsible leaders, the course fosters belonging, curiosity, and resilience. A hallmark of the seminar is its integration of civil discourse practices. Through dialogue, self-reflection, structured activities, and group projects, students are encouraged to listen attentively to one another and engage respectfully with differing viewpoints. Together, these skills -- essential for independent thought, collaborative problem-solving, and ethical leadership in both professional and civic life -- help students find their voice while cultivating empathy and understanding for others.
