Catalog description

In this semester, students will write a research thesis or literature review, depending on their selected M.S. track. Research track: Students will write a thesis paper based on their research conducted during Bio5499 using correct APA format as required by the Biology Department. Students will also present their research formally to the department, and to the wider campus community via a regional, or national conference or symposium. A summative assessment of the research thesis will be performed by a minimum of 3 tenure-track biology professors within the department. Literature Review track: Students will complete an extensive literature review using correct APA format (approximately 30-50 pages minimum) focused on a specific biomedical science discipline. To do so, students will select a mentor and select a topic within that professor's expertise (e.g.- molecular mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions by B. burgdorferi, or contemporary antiviral treatments of HIV). A summative assessment of the literature review will be performed by a minimum of 3 tenure-track biology professors within the department.
