Catalog description
This seminar-based class will identify and explore some of the philosophical, moral, legal, social, and political issues associated with scientific research. It will explore the relationships between the professional, social, moral, legal, and institutional responsibilities of working scientists. Through case studies, supplemental readings, and term papers - this class will enable further development of critical reasoning skills for understanding and presenting arguments related to bioethical dilemmas. Topics covered include research on human subjects, animal research, genetic engineering, biotechnology, cloning, and stem cell research.
