Human Anat & Phys II Lab

Catalog description

This is the second laboratory component of a two-part course focusing on human structure and function for students pursuing careers in nursing and health sciences. Anatomical information is combined with important physiological concepts to provide an integrated understanding of the dynamic human body. Body systems covered in depth include the endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems. Nutrition and metabolism, immunity, and fluid/electrolyte/acid-base balance are additional physiological areas of study. The complementary form and function of the healthy body is highlighted as systems work for maintenance of homeostatic balance. Clinical examples are presented to assist in the understanding of the disease process as a disruption of normal structure and function. This course will emphasize health promotion and risk reduction for common conditions related to body systems. These topics will serve to bridge anatomical and physiological content to nursing and healthcare based on national health promotion priorities. This course is not intended for Natural Sciences majors or minors.
