As one of the largest empires in history, the British Empire has had a profound impact on the "making of the modern world'. This course examines the history of the British Empire from the mid-eighteenth century to the period of decolonization after World War II through not only the traditional lens of politics and war but also through the lens of race, class, gender, ethnicity etc. and with a focus on British colonialism in Asia and Africa. As such, it also studies the rise of anti-colonial nationalism in the colonies and the impact of Empire on the making of not only the modern world but also on Britain itself. LA-TGP, LA-FCG, LA-EAH.
