Catalog description

Presents various physiological parameters measured in low and mid-acuity situations typically encountered in general care settings along with the instrumentation used to obtain such information. Focuses on how the technology works and how to evaluate its performance and safety. Emphasis is given to a variety of medical technologies including scales, thermometers, general electrocardiograph monitors, non-invasive blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeters, and spirometers. Lecture/Laboratory: 2.0 credits (37.5 contact hours).

Section notes

Prereq: BIO 135, BTS 125, and BTS 140 (each with a grade of C or better). Co-req: BTS 230. This course is open to both non-EOA and EOA BTS program students. Online coursework is supplemented with either five on-campus lab sessions (as a non-EOA student) or equivalent use-of-time within a hospital environment (as an EOA student). On-campus lab sessions will be held on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and a repeat session will be held on the following Wednesday afternoon during the hours from 1 pm to 4 pm for those who cannot attend the Tuseday morning session.
