Catalog description

This course introduces transcultural theories, concepts, and principles that help explain the healthcare needs and responses of individuals and groups within the context of their cultures and subcultures. Diversity is examined relative to social organization, roles and expectations, communication patterns, and values/beliefs underlying health-illness behaviors between Western and non-Western cultures. Emphasis is placed on the conduct of culturally competent assessments. PREREQUISITES: RN 160 with a grade of “C” or better. LIMITATION ON ENROLLMENT: Must have a current unencumbered California LVN licensure. (A, CSU)
