Catalog description

This is an introductory pharmacology course, which includes introduction to the professional context of drug administration, and the study of metric, apothecary, and household systems of measurement and dosage calculation. Common, local, and systemic drugs are studied. Uses, effects, drug interactions, adverse effects, and contraindications are included. Nursing responsibility and safe administration of the drug to the patient are emphasized. Completing this course requires accurate interpretation of doctors’ orders, reading medication labels, and calculating drug dosages. Students must pass the written final exam and a practical exam. Passing the practical exam requires a score of 100 %. COREQUISITES: Licensed Vocational Nursing 111. ADVISORIES: English 1A or English 1AH.
