Reading and Writing Center Theory and Practice

Catalog description
This course provides instruction and guided practice in peer learning assistance. The course is intended for those interested in helping students with reading assignments and written compositions while also enhancing their own reading and writing skills and for students intending to enter the field of education. Reader-based feedback and active learning strategies are practiced. Areas for study include learning theory, reading theory, composition theory, collaboration learning, writing centers, reading and writing across the curriculum. Attention is also given to working with special populations including the Deaf and ESL students. Tutors are also trained in Mental Health First Aid and LGBTQ Safe Space issues. ADVISORY: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in ENGL-C1000/C1000H is recommended. (Previously ENGL-1A or ENGL-1AH) (A, CSU)
