Biology for Science Majors I

Catalog description
This class is the first in a two-semester sequence of general biology for science majors. Students will explore the chemistry of life, cellular structures, and cellular metabolism – including photosynthesis and aerobic and anaerobic respiration. Regulation of the cell cycle and communication between cells will be investigated. Students will apply this foundation through genetics, biotechnology, and evolution. This course is intended for science majors and students planning to enter medical, veterinary, dental, optometry, and pharmacy programs. PREREQUISITES: Chemistry 1A or Chemistry 3A and Math 103 or Math 3A or Math C2210 (formerly MATH-5A) or equivalent. ADVISORIES: English C1000 or C1000H, Biology 10 & 10L or high school Biology. (A, Cal-GETC, CSU, UC) (C-ID BIOL 190) (C-ID BIOL 135S: BIOL 11A + BIOL 11B)
