An introduction to film technology and techniques, coupled with a survey of film history from the silent era through contemporary cinema. Students learn to identify the specific roles of the artists who collaborate to create a film. They also learn film history through an introduction to major directors (e.g., Griffith, Eisenstein, Renoir, Welles, Hitchcock, Kurosawa) and movements (e.g., German Expressionism, Italian neorealism, <i>film noir,</i> the French New Wave). <i>IF</i>
