A thorough grounding in the four language skills: reading, understanding, speaking, and writing, as well as an understanding of the structure of the Spanish language, as well as the national literatures and cultures of Spanish American countries and Spain. <i>For students with no previous knowledge of the language. Not recommended for students who have taken three years of high school Spanish. Laboratory study outside the classroom is required.</i>
