Catalog description

In a full-time clinical experience, teacher candidates demonstrate their knowledge and enhance their skills as competent, conscientious, and compassionate special educators. Under the guidance of mentors and clinical faculty, candidates continue their understanding of the teaching and learning process to promote the intellectual, emotional, and social development of students with disabilities. Based on the CEC Standards for Beginning Special Educators, students demonstrate skills in the areas of: assessment, observation, and data collection; evaluation/adaptation of curriculum and materials; instructional planning and delivery; classroom management; and collaboration, consultation, and communication with parents, teachers, and other professionals. The internship experience is individualized to suit the teacher candidate's present level of graduate and professional preparation.? Candidates apply the various ethical, legal, cultural, and interpersonal issues related to teaching students with exceptionalities and are expected to practice within the CEC Code of Ethics and Standards for Professional Practice, InTASC, and MCEE.
