Explores national, international, and transnational efforts by organized civil society groups to bring about political, social, and cultural change. The grievances, goals, tactics, and achievements of a wide range of social movements are examined. Students explore when and why movements occur, who joins them, how they are organized, what strategies they use, how they are influenced by different institutions like the state and the media, and what impact they have on society.
