Introduction to Sociology

Catalog description

Students learn the fundamentals of sociological inquiry both as a social science focused on the study of human organization, and as an art of critiquing various modalities of human organization. This course introduces students to the history of the discipline, primary theories of social order and social change, and the methods used by sociologists to answer salient sociological questions. Focused as it is on primary challenges facing the social world, this class provides an opportunity for students to develop an appreciation for history, philosophy, politics, economics, and the liberal arts in general, while learning to think scientifically and systematically about the social world, and the social construction of the individual within the social world. <i>Required for all sociology majors and minors.
