Philosophy of Peace

Catalog description

A study of the nature, aims, and possibility of peace. Students read what philosophers have had to say about peace and war from ancient to contemporary times. Some of the issues examined include just war theory, conscientious objection, nonviolent protest, and the current Iraq war. In general, the course asks the question of whether humans are condemned to eternal war or can hope--as Kant did--for perpetual peace. <i>IPJ</i>
