Africa in Age of Globalization

Catalog description

How have African states and people adapted to the accelerated changes that have come with globalization? This course explores the historical developments in Africa since the end of World War II, starting with the twin processes of decolonization and the Cold War. Students are encouraged to consider the various possibilities and opportunities available to newly independent states for social, political, and economic development. The course also grapples with how colonial legacies constrained real development and concludes with a consideration of the African experience in the post-Cold War era - what many historians and social scientists call the era of globalization. <i>GT/IAF</i>
