Afrofuturism is a way of imagining, interrogating, and re-envisioning the past, present, and future through a Black lens. The course readings and discussions examine U.S. history while also projecting forward into its uncertain future. To explore the breadth of Afrofuturism, students engage with a diverse range of literary texts, films, music, and visual art created by Black American artists, including writers, filmmakers, musicians, and visual artists.
