Intro to Educ:School&Society

Catalog description

Introduces students to the role of education in today's multicultural world and their own academic disciplines. Topics include the historical and sociological foundations of education and implications for schooling our increasingly diverse population; principles of how children learn; ways schools can facilitate student achievement; and the impact of educational technology. Concurrent with readings and discussions, students learn through hands-on experience and interactions with K-12 pupils in communities and in schools. <i>The co-requisite for this course is a field experience in a school setting. Fulfills social science core. Closed to students who have taken ED101.</i>
