This course is designed to provide a sociological understanding concerning various impacts of immigration in the United States. International migration patterns have significantly affected the development of US society since its inception. In recent decades, the United States experienced a record number of new immigrants from a variety of countries. In this course, we examine fundamental concepts for studying migration and theories that explain international migration. We also discuss how immigrants have redefined - and will keep redefining - local and foreign demographic dynamics in receiving and sending societies, transnational networks, and a more complex ethno-racial diversity with meaningful international roots.
