Catalog description

Critical Race Theory teaches analytical tools to study how law can create and cure racism. The course re-examines the first year curriculum (e.g., torts, contracts, criminal law, property, and civil procedure) to show that the law is conscious of race, and to explore how seemingly neutral application of the law can have devastating consequences for racial minorities.The course puts Critical Race Theory in conversation with other critical approaches like feminist theory and class studies. Our course goal is to address the following question: What would the legal landscape look like if society were to account for (and address) racial oppression?
