2L and 3L students may enroll on a space available basis. This 1L perspective elective seminar examines the role of executive branch and independent federal agencies (like the Federal Trade Commission) under our Constitution. These agencies regulate much of the economy and much of our daily lives far more than the state and federal court systems. Despite being critical to our individual liberties, health, and economic well-being, the work of such agencies is under attack. The seminar will look at recent Supreme Court cases which challenge in different ways the work and very existence of such agencies.
