Diversity and Inclusion: A Professional and Social Responsibility

This 2 hour course will examine the legal profession which remains one of the least diverse of American professions. Lawyers have unique and varying roles as counselors, advocates, confidants, government officials, adjudicators, and civic leaders. In this course, students will have an opportunity to learn about the legal profession's diversity and inclusion history and challenges, organizational and individual roles and strategies, and current research. This course will engage students with lectures, guest speakers, group discussion, and readings--all materials will be provided by instructors. There will be no cost to the students for materials utilized in this course. There will be a final presentation where students can discuss and elaborate on important topics in the legal profession. Students will gain a deeper understanding of how diversity and inclusion efforts intersect with professional responsibility and its impact on social justice.
