Catalog description

This course provides an introduction to the fundamental concepts and practical applications of bioinformatics, the interdisciplinary field that combines biology, chemistry, computer science, and statistics. Students will explore how biological data - such as DNA, RNA, and protein sequences - are created, stored, analyzed, and interpreted. Topics include genome structure, sequence alignment, database searching, molecular evolution, structural bioinformatics, and essential computational tools for analyzing biological data. Through a mix of lectures and hands-on activities, students will learn to use key bioinformatics resources and software to solve real-world problems in genetics, molecular biology, and biotechnology.
