Aliens, Atlantis, and Archaeology

Catalog description

Students will examine the foundations of archaeological knowledge claims to distinguish science from pseudoscience. Students will also examine ways of knowing that go beyond Western science (i.e., Indigenous epistemologies). In the end, students will understand why academic archaeologists do or do not accept claims about ancient aliens or mythical moundbuilders. 2) Differentiate science from pseudoscience in popular media. 3) Construct an evidence-based argument about an archaeological controversy.
