Catalog description
Exploration of the principles and architectures underlying parallel and distributed computing. Students study systems and communication models for networked, distributed, and cloud-based environments, with an emphasis on AWS and related platforms. The course examines many-core and many-task computation problems, GPU and edge processing algorithms, and serverless architectures such as AWS Lambda. Programming models including MPI and MapReduce. Web Services are introduced alongside message passing with SNS/SQS, API-driven development, and data processing with tools such as Elasticsearch. Topics in virtualization and cloud security emphasize the design and performance of scalable computing systems.
