, letter grade This course will discuss the theories and applications of laboratory animal models to study human diseases. The goal of this course is to give students a working knowledge of the use of animal models in research, types of models and how to choose for translational relevance. By the end of the course, the students should be able to: Identify best practices for the conduct of high quality animal studies that lead to reproducible data; discuss strategies for modeling human diseases and pathology in animals such that biological mechanisms and therapeutics can be studied and; analyze the current scientific literature concerning animal models of human disease, incorporating prior knowledge and expertise to judge appropriate methods of scientific and translatable experimentation in animals.
