Catalog description

Majors or Minors only, or permission of department. A survey of diverse roles occupied by musicians and their collaborators in societies from the past to the present, the remote to the familiar, and the global to the local. The course fosters a humanistic engagement with the musical lives of others while encouraging students to consider the contemporary opportunities afforded by a degree in the field of music. As an introduction to academic coursework at LSU, the course also cultivates practical skills necessary for success at the university level, from regular attendance and note taking to critical thinking and clear writing.
