Catalog description
This course analyzes the historical contexts of graphic design and its impact on contemporary design practice. Topics include the early alphabet, the impact of popular design movements, illustration, photography, corporate design, modern design, traditional print vs. digital processes, and design trends. We will explore world events that shaped visual communication, from the invention of writing to the computer age and new multimedia. Individual-led field trips will augment class assignments depending on gallery and museum schedules.
