Graphic Design I is an introduction to the foundational techniques, industry processes and terminology of graphic design. The course stresses three main objectives: composition, typography and craftsmanship. Composition stresses the importance of grid use, organization, clarity and hierarchy. Typography is a key component in graphic design and fundamental to visual communication and continues to be a component of all subsequent coursework throughout the program. Craftsmanship includes proper use of technology, tools, with a heavy emphasis on precision, attention to detail and clean presentation. Laboratory required. (A special fee will be assessed.)
