FOUNDATIONS OF ADDICTION STUDIES

Catalog description

This course is an overview of the biological, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions of addictions and addictive behavior, exploring the effects of addiction on health, families, and communities. Factors leading to regular and problematic use are explored. An overview of the pharmacological effects of drugs within major drug categories, theories of addiction, interventions, treatment methods and prevention are examined. Students will learn about the history of the prevention discipline, the theories and research based approaches that guide the effective implementation of programs and strategies. Course Provides 40 hours of Chemical dependency specific educational content required for application for CDCA—Preliminary Credential with the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board. Student needs to apply for this credential with the OCDPB.
