Catalog description
This course will examine the complex and paradoxical society of Victorian Britain. The extreme contrasts between wealth and poverty, morality and cynicism, creativity and constriction, imperial grandeur and domestic squalor, and collectivity and individualism will be addressed. Victorians were committed to material and moral progress, industrial and commercial expansion, and world-wide free trade. Prerequisite(s): None. Corequisite(s): None. EU
