Catalog description

The course examines the role of Virginia in the American Civil War, 1861-1865. It emphasizes the political, economic, social, and military aspects of the period, with particular focus on the causes of the war, on military operations in Virginia and the role of Virginia troops and leaders, on the impact of the war on Virginia’s civilian population, and on the results and consequences of the war in the state. It will consist of lectures as well as visits to various Virginia battlefields. Course fee: $35. Prerequisite(s): None. Corequisite(s): None. US
