Introduction to Human Services

Catalog description

Students will gain an understanding of the human service perspective, learn the history of the human services field and will be introduced to the human services professions such as physical and occupational therapy, creative arts therapy, clinical psychology, mental health and substance abuse counseling, and social work. Students will explore individual, social, and cultural influences on people’s perspectives of the problems meeting human needs addressed by human services professionals. An emphasis will be placed on the human services perspective. Students will be introduced to the knowledge, dispositions, and skills necessary to be successful professionals. Students will come to understand how citizen leaders contribute to the common good of society through the work of the human services professions. *Fulfills Civitae Core FHBS SI
