Catalog description

This advanced course explores the power of rhetoric as a tool for civic engagement and global advocacy. Through in-depth analysis of speeches, media campaigns, public discourse, and digital platforms, students will engage with classical and contemporary rhetorical theory to examine how rhetorical strategies shape public opinion, influence policy, and mobilize communities around urgent civic and global issues such as but limited to climate change, human rights, public health, and social justice. The course will culminate in a research or advocacy project in which students design and execute a rhetorically-informed campaign or analysis addressing a civic or global issue. May be repeated for credit if topic changes. Prerequisite(s): ENGL 165 , and Completion of FHCI Pillar Corequisite(s): None *Fulfills Civitae Core PHCI SI
