Catalog description

Preservice Teachers explore literacy-related theories, research, and methods for elementary grade levels with a particular focus on early (PK-2) literacy development and foundational literacy skills. Preservice Teachers develop their own reading and writing practices and identities as they discuss the interconnected and developmental nature of oral language, phonology, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing instruction. Preservice Teachers also administer and analyze a variety of diagnostic assessments and will design and implement literacy-based learning experiences across a variety of social and cultural contexts. The successful completion of an embedded field-related experience is required. Course fee: $66. Prerequisite(s) or corequisite(s): ELEM 240 Corequisite(s): ELEM 340
