Catalog description
The role of human activity as a driver of earth system change (e.g., sea level rise, landslides, climate change, and other geologic hazards) is undoubtedly one of the largest threats to humanity and our planet today. Confronting this reality demands an understanding of science through an interdisciplinary lens and its interrelationships with society, economics, politics, and education. In this course, we will examine major principles of earth science, including those from geology, meteorology, atmospheric science, and oceanography. Emphasis will also be placed on the interactions between earth-shaping processes, atmospheric dynamics, and ocean circulation to better understand the effects of human activity on each of these components of earth as a system. Does not meet the requirements for Integrated Environmental Science (IES) majors or minors. May not enroll if EASC 211 and EASC 212 have already been completed. 2 lecture and one 2-hour lab period.
