Catalog description
This course introduces the data life-cycle used by data scientists from modeling and collection of empirical evidence to decision-making and answering authentic questions in a variety of domains. Topics will include the elaboration of client problems and queries, assessment of available data sources, analysis protocols for large-scale data sets, and the presentation of findings for non-technical audiences. Basic machine learning approaches will be introduced, along with tools for data mining, visualization, and model evaluation. Prerequisite(s): MATH 171 and CMSC 140 , both with a grade of C- or higher Corequisite(s): None
