Catalog description

An introduction to the structures and reactivities of carbon-based compounds. Topics include different theories of bonding, structural analysis, energy changes and stability, reaction rates, and reaction mechanisms. The principles of chemical synthesis are also introduced. A one-credit laboratory class ( CHEM 213 ) is also required to complete the organic chemistry requirement. The course consists of three 1-hour lecture periods per week. Prerequisite(s): CHEM 111 with a grade of C- or higher Corequisite(s): None
