Comparative Biomechanics

All living things are subject to physical laws that govern how they move, eat, stand, heat themselves, and stay hydrated. Comparative biomechanics is the study of how organisms are built and have evolved to live within those physical limitations. This course will focus on examining the form-function relationships of animal locomotion (walking, running, flying, and swimming), animal food consumption, and plant structures. 3 lecture and one 2-hour lab periods. Course fee: $30. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 288 with a minimum grade of C- and either one of the following: BIOL 303 , BIOL 306 , BIOL 309 , BIOL 315 ; or permission of instructor; PHYS 120 and PHYS 121 recommended.
