Foundations of Recording

Catalog description

This course explores the fundamentals of analog and digital audio. Students study recording console design, function, and signal flow; principles of signal processing, such as reverberation, delay, equalization, and compression; and microphone and loudspeaker technology. Students learn how to monitor and sculpt EQ settings, when to process input signals, how to select the correct microphone and polar pattern for each instrument, and how to choose the right outboard gear for the track. A prerequisite of TEP 210 is required.
