Catalog description

Health Promotion and Wellness is a 2-credit course during the Fall semester of the third year of the DPT program. It is designed to provide students with the theoretical and practical aspects of maintaining and promoting health. Students will examine theories of wellness as well as the effects of lifestyle and the environment on wellness. The patient-practitioner collaborative model and approaches to facilitating adherence to healthy lifestyle behavior changes will be explored. Emphasis will be placed on social, epidemiological, and behavioral and environmental assessment as Page 241 Catalog 2025 - 2026 well as educational and ecological assessment of factors affecting health-related behavior and environments. Students will also become knowledgeable about patient education and participation in community activities in the promotion of health and healthy lifestyles and the prevention of illness and injury. Upon completion of the course students are expected to understand wellness theories and implement programs on the individual and community levels.
