Intervention Techniques I

Catalog description

This course is designed to orient students to current theory and research in intervention techniques, including cognitive behavioral models, psychodynamic models, interpersonal models, and humanistic models with a particular emphasis on short-term psychotherapies. This course will elucidate why (or for what purpose) therapists of different orientations use certain intervention techniques as opposed to others and will focus on areas of convergence as well as discrepancies between the various models. Finally, this course will provide an overview of important issues facing contemporary clinical psychologists, including cultural competence, psychotherapy integration, and empirically supported treatments. Corequisite: Psychology 655 Must be a student in the Doctoral Psychology program
