Catalog description

This course is designed for nurse practitioner students. The course provides the student with an advanced understanding of pharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. The major classifications of drugs used across the lifespan in primary care settings are emphasized in terms of therapeutic effects, adverse effects, interactions, and patient and family teaching. Ethical considerations and cultural and financial issues related to medication are also discussed. Students have the opportunity to apply knowledge and gain critical thinking skills with a variety of case studies. The course includes three hours of content on both New York State and Federal laws and regulations related to prescribing and record keeping. Prerequisites: NUR 610, 612, 620 & 630 Corequisite: NUR 670
