Engineering and Ethics

Catalog description

This course aims to introduce students to the concepts, theory, and practice of engineering ethics. It will allow students to explore the relationship between ethics and engineering and apply classical moral theory and reasoned decision making to engineering issues that they will face in their academic and professional careers. Also, the aim of this course is on increasing ethical awareness and improving moral reasoning within the engineering profession by introducing students to key challenges in engineering ethics. Additionally, students will study and analyze a set of case studies which includes previous cases as well as new cases concentrated on emerging technologies in different engineering fields. Three credits; one-hour lecture and two-hour laboratory. Prerequisite: 3rd year (Junior) status.
