Catalog description

This course explores the theoretical and historical foundations of sport and exercise psychology. Topics include motivation, arousal, anxiety, attention, aggression, altered states of consciousness, personality in sport, self-regulation, and leadership. The course also examines social and cultural influences such as sex roles, racism, cohesiveness, and humanism in sport. Additional emphasis is placed on recognizing high-risk individuals, understanding when psychological referral is appropriate, and applying ethical decision-making in sport settings. Prerequisite: PSY 10000 . Cross-listed: HS 52500.
